Greenup Police Chief speaks out.

“Blessed to be in this role, and couldn’t ask for better first responders,” says Limuel Danavic.

Limuel Danavic stepped into the shoes of Police Chief five years ago.

“Every step I take, I take in prayer. I desire God’s will be done in all things.”

Danavic says it hasn’t always been this way. He became a Christian after coming to live and work in Greenup County.

“I try to be a light, and treat everyone the same. Even those who aren’t kind to you deserve kindness.”

Danavic says on the night officer Michael Lees, his partner, Lilly, and the suspect were injured, it hit him hard.

“When you are in Emergency Services, you become family. When one or two hurts, you all hurt. That little girl didn’t deserve that, nor did her big brother. I’m thankful to God for having HIS hand on everybody all at the same time.”

Danavic shares Nancy Primmer, the only female deputy, plays an important part in the PD.

“Nancy has a very welcoming connection with women and children. Some of the men will open up to her before the rest of us. The night Nancy got shot, I thought for sure we had lost her and those twins.”

Limuel shares the importance of taking a pregnant officer off the road, at the right time.

“Well, none of us know what danger we may be walking into when we step into our uniform. But, a female officer, who is carrying unborn life, is at an even higher risk. Nancy was about to go off the road on desk duty. When the vest doesn’t fit properly, along with a lot of serious factors, it’s time.”

Chief Danavic says he will never forget the child on the building, and her rescuer.

“It broke all of our hearts when this child’s dad died in the line of duty . He responded as a back up unit, from another department, and took the deadly bullet trying to shield Nancy. But, this little girl was grieving so hard for her daddy, that she didn’t want to live anymore. No one could talk her down. But God led me to have Nancy come and try.”
