Meet the Primmer’s.

The photo shows a couple holding twin girls.

Garrett and Nancy Primmer have had a rough start.

“When my Mom and I moved here, I knew no one,” shares Nancy.

Nancy is a police officer, and Garrett is the supervisor at 911.

“The first time I saw her,” Garrett smiles, “I thought she was pretty.”

Nancy and Garrett had been married a couple of years before the twins were born. But let’s go back in their story.

Q “Nancy, talk about what it was like to assist in the rescue of the two children.”

Nancy “It started just like any other drunk driver stop I have been on. I was actually a backup officer. The twelve year old boy was much more concerned about his little sister than himself.”

Q “The boy was in the backseat, and his little sister at home with the mother, who was doing drugs.”

Nancy “Right. The boy had an instant trust bond with Michael.”

Q “For context, Michael is another officer on the department. You all had some tension between you. Did that effect working together.”

Nancy “No. At the time I was not a Christian. Michael Lees is also a preacher. While I accused him of shoving religion down my throat, I know different now.”

Q “You all cleared things up that night?”

Nancy “I would just say we came to an understanding our differences were not going to come between us on the job. We didn’t speak much otherwise.”

Q “Talk about your feelings of what happened that night. You didn’t go to the house.”

Nancy “No.I went to the hospital with the boy. He was under nourished, and terrified. While Michael and another unit were at the residence, there was a drug explosion. Michael, the other officer, child, and suspect were injured. I still thank God to this day everything turned out the way it did.”

Q “Garrett, at the time, you and Nancy were dating. What was going through your mind?”

Garrett “Well, when you are behind the radio, you have to go by what you are hearing. Of course, you never know what can happen minute to minute. I am always concerned about Nancy responding to anything, and have concern for all of our units. That night, I knew Nancy was at the hospital with the child, and my main focus was with my officers at the house. My wife is a good officer.”

Q “So, you all still keep in contact with the kids?”

Nancy “Yes. Michael and his wife Emma have the kids. Michael and I did speak outside of work after that. He was badly injured, as was the little girl.”

Q “Nancy, what was the turning point in your life?”

Nancy “I was around four months pregnant with the girls, getting ready to go on desk duty. We had a police chase. The suspect barricaded himself in an out building. He came out, and forced me to step forward. He shot me in the stomach and shoulder. Thank God, the bullet missed my girls. Lying on the ground, I was in horrible pain expecting to die. Michael begged me to let God into my heart, to save me. Best decision I ever made was to let God in. My faith helped me through my recovery, and everything else down to the birth of our daughters.”

Q “Garrett, there was something you, somehow, managed to keep from your wife?”

Garrett “I messed up. The night she was shot, another officer stepped in front of her. He took the third and deadly shot. I feared Nancy would blame herself for his death. Don’t keep things from those you love, even when in your mind, you are protecting them.”

Q “Nancy, have you forgiven Garrett, and the suspect?”

Nancy “I have, because that’s what God has called us to do. Had I not welcomed Christ into my heart, no I don’t expect I could have.”

Q “Garrett, you were Dispatching the night this happened. How did that impact you?”

Garrett “I ran from the radio room to get to my wife. I tried to pray, which I don’t usually do. It just makes me wonder why God let’s things happen to good people.”

Q “Have you accepted Christ as your personal Savior?”

Garrett “No. Not at this moment.”

Nancy “I’m going to keep praying though.”

Q “Nancy, on the day your twins were born, you did something amazing.”

Nancy “As I told Garrett and others, Amazing God is still amazing me. When I was released after the shooting to go back to work, they hired me part time at Dispatch. Garrett needed me to come in the night before. Early that morning, I took a mother’s frantic 911 call. Her daughter was on top of their apartment building, and was thinking of jumping. She would talk to no one. God led the police chief to have me talk to her. With God’s help I did. I stayed at the bottom of those steps for two hours. Maybe a little more. We have a deep friendship, as do I and her mother.”

Q “God had to be in that. Garrett, has the miracles changed your view of God any?”

Garrett “I still have a lot of questions. Mackenzie, the twin Nancy is holding, was diagnosed with Down syndrome at birth. It just breaks my heart .”

Q “Nancy, how do you handle that?”

Nancy “Broken heart of course. But, I have faith in God that HE has a purpose for both my girls. I vow to give both my girls the best life possible. I want to make Kenzie’s life as normal as Elizabeth’s.”

Q “Your Emergency family has suffered a loss recently. Garrett you were her supervisor.”

Garrett “Tammy Lyn was a kind hearted woman, and a dedicated Dispatcher. Nancy, myself, and others went to her parents home on the night of the accident. They were broken hearted to lose their only child.”

Nancy “Tammy positively impacted a lot of lives. She was a good Dispatcher, and a sweet woman. I had the pleasure of working with her a few times. But as an officer, you were glad she was behind the radio. I hear she was a good Sunday School teacher as well.”

Garrett “She’s missed.”

Q “Thank you for joining us today. I hope to hear from you again?”

Garrett and Nancy “Thank you.”
