Jake Dayy stood alone on the bridge in the dim twilight. Like his life, the day was drawing to a close. No one needed or appreciated him anymore. No matter that he had served his country in World War Two, the world had forgotten Jake. While the incomes of ball players went up, so did his mounting debt. Jake liked a ballgame as much as the next guy, but there was something he couldn’t figure out. How could soldiers put their lives on the line, leave there families for months, and be so unappreciated by their own home land? After the passing of his wife of fourty years, Jake had simply lost his will to live. Their only child, Johnie, had died over fifty years ago. Well, no more time. No one needed this old man in this world.
“I’m ready to meet you God. Take me now.”
Just as he prepared to jump, he noticed a small puppy. It’s mother had been run over. He climbed down, and walked off the bridge. The puppy looked up at him with sad eyes. Slowly, Jake reached down to let her sniff. He gently lifted the young puppy into his arms.
“God, You got my attention. It looks like someone does need me after all. YOU sure work in mysterious ways. Thank YOU LORD. I didn’t want to die today after all.” one
