4:00 AM UPDATE: There have been revisions to the current winter weather event. There are now WINTER STORM WARNINGS for a large part of Kentucky, WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES and WINTER STORM WATCHES for parts of south central and south eastern Kentucky. Far western Kentucky, there are ICE STORM WARNINGS. Click on the map for a better view of your location. WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM EST /3 AM CST/ SUNDAY TO 1 PM EST /NOON CST/ MONDAY…
WHAT…A wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain is expected
from early Sunday morning through Monday afternoon. Southern
Indiana is expected to receive snow/sleet amounts of 6-10 inches,
with ice accumulations of 0.2 to 0.5 inches. North central
Kentucky is expected to receive snow/sleet amounts of 2 to 6
inches and ice accumulations of 0.2 to 0.6 inches.
WHERE…Southern Indiana and much of central Kentucky.
WHEN…From 4 AM EST /3 AM CST/ Sunday to 1 PM EST /noon CST/Monday.
IMPACTS…Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice.
Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Monday morning commute.
WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING…
WHAT…Heavy mixed wintery precipitation is possible. Total snow
accumulations of up to two inches and ice accumulations around a
quarter of an inch are possible.
WHERE…The Winter Storm Watch is for portions of south central
and southeast Kentucky.
WHEN…The Winter Storm Watch is from Sunday morning through
Tuesday morning.
IMPACTS…Power outages and tree damage are possible due to the
ice. Travel could be nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions
may impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The greatest risk of mixed wintery
precipitation is during the day Sunday into early Sunday evening,
with another increased threat of snow on Monday afternoon.
WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM SUNDAY TO NOON CST MONDAY…
WHAT…Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow accumulations up
to one inch and ice accumulations between one tenth and two tenths of an inch.
WHERE…South central Kentucky.
WHEN…From 3 AM Sunday to noon CST Monday.
IMPACTS…Plan on slippery road conditions and possible fallen
limbs. Isolated power outages will be possible.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS…The main impacts will occur Sunday morning, with the wintry mix likely changing to rain for the afternoon and evening hours, before possibly changing to light snow Monday morning.
ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM SUNDAY TO 6 AM CST MONDAY…
WHAT…Significant icing expected. Total snow and sleet
accumulations up to two inches and ice accumulations between one quarter and three quarters of an inch.
WHERE…Portions of southern Illinois, western Kentucky, and
southeast Missouri.
WHEN…From 2 AM Sunday to 6 AM CST Monday.
IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous. Significant ice accumulation on
power lines and tree limbs may cause widespread and long-lasting
power outages. Expect power outages and tree damage due to the
ice. Travel could be impossible. The hazardous conditions could
impact the Monday morning commute.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS…An arctic blast will arrive Monday and last
through most of the week. Wind chill values will drop into the
single digits or below zero at times, which can be even more
dangerous with any long duration power outages.
