Lilly Mae Lees stood in front of the mirror in her college dorm room. She was putting on makeup bought by her boyfriend. It was a shade Lilly Mae would have never bought for herself. It was to dark. The dress her mother had bought her was her style. It fit just right, not showing off anything.

She hadn’t yet been off campus with this boy. Lilly had been far too busy with medical terminology class, her other studies, and the Bible study group she and Shayna had started on campus.
Lilly smiled as she began the video call with her parents. She could see the worried expressions on their faces. Her dad had called Lilly earlier that day to check up on her. This did not annoy Lilly Mae. She was adopted by these loving parents as a two year old. She and her big brother had never really known Jesus. But Michael and Emma, now Daddy and Mom had changed all that.

When he arrived to pick up Lilly Mae, she took the chocolates from him. She followed the strong push not to eat them.
“You look beautiful.”
He spoke this in a tone of voice Lilly was uncomfortable with.
“The makeup isn’t really my style.”
“I like it on you, and you will wear it.”
Lilly dropped the candy on the floor as she fought back her gasp.
“Let’s get one thing straight. God is my only boss. Not you, or anyone else. Where are we going? I thought we were going to a fancy restaurant.”
“I like it when you get feisty,” he laughed, “Relax. We have to run by my budy’s house first.”
Lilly tensed. What had she gotten herself into? She watched the trees fly by as he picked up speed.
“Please slow down.”
“Why don’t you shut up.”
It had not been a question. Lilly felt the sting of tears threatening to fall. She wouldn’t allow them. She wouldn’t let him see her cry.
“We are through,” she punctuated the air with her hand.
“We are through when I say we are done. Do you hear me Preacher’s daughter?”
“You do know my parents are also Police Officers right?”
She had blurted the words before she could stop them.
“That does it.”
He yanked the car into some trees. It looked like miles and miles of woods to Lilly. She prayed harder if possible, and prepared for the fight of her adult years.
As a toddler, she had been paralyzed when a preventable explosion had happened. God had touched her then, and HE would protect Lilly now.
She hit the lock button as she watched him walk around the front of the car. She screamed when she saw the key in his right hand, and heard the click.
The creep jerked open Lilly Mae’s door, drug her out by her right arm, and forced her to stand. When she refused, he dragged her by the hair on her head. Lilly screamed with all she had in her. But only God, and this creep, could hear her.
After what seemed like hours passed before he shoved Lilly back into his car, and slammed the door. Shaking, feeling nasty, and alone she cried in her soul to God. Her Heavenly FATHER.
