What profession do you admire most and why?
If you had asked me what calling I admire most, I would have said Preacher. The ones who stand and preach the Word Of God straight and true. The ones who preach hell fire and brimstone. The ones who are not afraid to ruffle people, but are more concerned about eternal salvation and damnation. The ones who preach that hell is a real eternal lake of fire, Heaven is to gain, but we have to stay on the straight and narrow.
But, what profession do I admire? You might still call it a calling. Because it takes a special kind of person.
A 911 dispatcher works days, evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends. They miss family events, they keep going when exhausted. They have to stay in their chair when they would love to crawl through the phone, an hold a frightened child. They must stay calm while their caller falls apart.
When their officer shouts for help on the radio, they must force their own emotions aside until later.
They must handle the needs of police, fire, EMS, and rescue all at once at times. With phones still ringing. Sometimes the person on the other end is their family or friend. They still must remain calm, and dispatch the right help.
But, they must deal with all this emotion at the right time…Then do it all again.
