Have you visited the Citizen’s Park in Historic Adair County Kentucky? A walking trail, dog park, and more await.

But why is this place historical?

On this property sits the foundation of the Hurt Foust Home.

Take special note of the room built at the top of the home. The Judge built it for his son with breathing problems.

This beautiful home was built around 1854, and sold two years later, by a young Thomas H Frazer. It is proposed that Frazer made a nice amount when the property sold.

When visiting, take note that on one side of this tree, it is burnt. That is because of the fire that destroyed this historic home.

Historian Mike Watson said it was only two days prior to the fire that they removed historical documents and more.

Frazer sold the home to Timoleon Cravens, a well known attorney. Cravens was later known in local, state, and national political circles. Tragity struck in 1866 when Cravens died suddenly. He left behind his wife and children to live on the property. Due to gambling debts, he had lost the home to the Bank Of Columbia, keeping enough property to build a house at the end of the driveway.

The home was purchased from the bank by Cary Chandler Hurt. Later the house was purchased by Judge Rollin T, Hurt. Until recent years, this home was owned by descendants of Judge Hurt. Judge Hurt was the Grandson of Pioneer William Hurt, and the son of E Hurt. Judge Hurt had a son by the name of Ralph Hurt. His Granddaughter was named Pamala Hurt.
