Who is that voice that answers when you call 911 in an emergency?
A dispatcher takes being of a special kind. It is not a job for the weak. It’s a job that requires nights, holidays, and weekends. It requires missing family events. It requires staying calm while your caller or is falling apart. It requires you to listen as your unit screams for help on the radio. It requires you to stay in your chair, and do your best to get all units safely home.
Who can be one of these front line hero’s? Do you have a high school diploma or GED? Are you willing to work all hours of night and day as needed? Are you willing to work holidays? Can you hold it together in a heart breaking emergency. Can you push down your emotions at the time, but handle them in the right way later? Are you good at team work, multitasking, and getting information quickly? Are you willing to go to a four or fie week training, and continue training as required? Do you care about people?
You might be a good fit.
Thank you to all who tirelessly and with little thanks do this job with dedication.
God bless you and your family, department, and community.
