Protection of your child’s social security number.
Written by Samantha C Sinclair
There are constant concerns about your child’s safety. But what about their social security number? What are some things you can do to keep them safe?
First things first. Before giving your child’s social security number to anyone, ask questions. Be sure they are real. Also insure any documents with personal information are protected. Before getting rid of any electronics insure all personal information is cleared. This might sound simple and well known. But it is crucial.
How do I know if my child’s SSN is being used?
A call to credit agencies can answer your concern. They do not purposely keep credit records on minors. So if your child’s social security number is found there, you need to act.
What do I do?
First thing you need to do is confirm all places where your child’s SSN was used. Secondly, contact the Fraud Departments of all places. Ask them to close out those false accounts. Directly ask them to send you a letter of conformation.
