Following a tragic accident involving a semi truck and an ambulance, two people have lost their lives. The following is a statement on the Facebook page of Somerset Pulaski county EMS.
“It is with deep regret and sadness that the City of Somerset announces the line of duty death of EMT Chastian McWhorter, 26.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. April 1, 2024, McWhorter and coworker Baily Haynes were involved in an accident with a semi-truck during a patient transport in Garrard County. McWhorter passed away at the scene, while Haynes was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with minor injuries. The patient being transported also died as result of this incident.

Chastian McWhorter was employed with Somerset-Pulaski EMS since December 2022. He leaves behind his spouse, children, several family members and co-workers.

We appreciate the service that these men have provided to our community. We mourn the loss of Chastian and will continue to provide support to his family and coworkers.

We offer continued prayers to the family of the patient who was also involved in this tragic accident.

YPlease keep the men and women of Somerset-Pulaski EMS and all of our members of emergency services in your thoughts and prayers.”
According to another post on their Facebook page, they are sincerely thankful to all of the support they have received. Please continue to hold up this department, family of the lost, as well as the injured in your prayers. It will be a very hard time in the hours days weeks months, and years to come. Our hearts break for you And prayers are going up.
